Due 5/25/12-Read pages 206-233. Create 10 post-its. 3 of them should activate schema. Create an argument about the beginning of “The Storm”, and write an essay map and an enticing introduction.
Due 5/15/12- Read from pages 65-107. Create 10 posts-its and type a paragraph about the tone and mood and how it connects to a character, event, theme, or activity.
Due 5/11/12-Read p. 34-65. Create 10(spread out) post-its write a paragraph about a connection between Kindred and Frederick Douglass’ narrative.
Due 5/9/12- Read read up to Page 33 (middle) in Kindred. Create at least 10 post-its. Make sure you don’t create post-its all in the same section. Spread them out!!!(What is being said, Significant, confusing, and interesting)In one paragraph explain one of your post-its. Make sure the paragraph is typed and has all the components of a good paragraph

Use Teaching Nepalis How to Read, Plant, and Vote and Alive and the Killing Fields to create an extended response based on the question given in class (How do these texts show the development of hope in difficult times?)
Due 4/3/12- Complete the packet we got with multiple choice questions. Time yourself for 20 minutes. Read chapters 7,8, and 9 in the book. Create 7 post-its (2 Striking Images, 2 Significant Lines 1 Activating Schema connected to a current event). Explain each one of these responses in at least one sentence.
Due 3/30/12- Read chapters 5 and 6 in the book. Find at least five examples of sentences that have subject-verb agreement (At least two in each chapter). Use at least five post-its to find What is being said and Activating Schema (At least two in each chapter). Finish the listening section.
Due 3/28/12- Take notes on Chapters 3 and 4 using 7 Post-its, with one Activating Schema comment and one What is Being said comment. Explain why the answer for questions 8 to 21 is correct.
Due 3/26/12- Go to the handout page of the website and do the last handout. Read chapter 2 in Alive in the Killing Field. Using at least five post-its, have one Activating Schema comment and one notes comment per post-it. Finish the Culminating Project.
Due 3/22/12- Get the ELA packet signed. Complete the brochure about Cambodia. Read the prologue and Chapter 1 in the new book. Take notes on at least 5 pages.
Due 3/20/12- Read “Nikki-Rosa” by Nikki Giovanni and “Equality” by Maya Angelou. Respond to them on the website.
Due 3/16/12- Look at the culminating project handout and write significant or confusing ideas. Read the Gwendolyn Brooks biography and take notes. Analyze “We Real Cool”.
Due 3/14/12- Type a paragraph about how the poem “America” connects to our EQ. Write what each quatrain and the couplet is saying.
Due 3/12/12- Read “America” by Claude McKay, analyze it, and write a paragraph about it.
Due 3/8/12- Finish anything you didn’t finish in class. Read and take notes on the Claude McKay biography. Write a paragraph on a significant aspect of his life.
Due 3/6/12- Write a poem in the style of a Langston Hughes poem that we already went over. Fill in the final column in the chart about nouns and adjectives. Draw a picture that represents a significant idea in “Far Cry from Africa.”
Due 3/2/12- Read and take notes on the Derek Walcott biography and take notes. Write a paragraph about a similarity or difference between Langston Hughes and him. Do the “Peer Editing” section on the back of the sheet with the homework your partner gave you.
Due 2/29/12- Read, analyze and write a paragraph about a significant aspect of “Mother to Son.”
Due 2/27/12- Read and take notes on “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes. Write a paragraph that develops a significant aspect of the poem. Type the paragraph and show what is what sentence.
Due 2/16/12- Read “I, Too Sing America” by Langston Hughes. Analyze it using the 5 steps and write a paragraph about how the literary element connects to the main idea.
Due 2/14/12- Read the biography of Langston Hughes and take notes. Type up one good paragraph about one significant aspect of his life. Be sure to have a simple, a compound, a complex, a declarative, an interrogative, an exclamatory, and an imperative sentence. Below, show which was your topic sentence, which was your concluding sentence, and which were your supporting sentences. Do the same for the homework that was due 2/10/12.
